  • Stress And Its Ups And Downs

Posted on September 3rd, 2009 Rene A Lacape No comments

Interestingly enough, stress can actually be quantified. The Holmes-Rahe Social Readjustment Scale assigns point values to the various stressors we can experience in life. For example, the most stressful event we can encounter is the death of a spouse, which ranks a 100 on the scale. That’s followed by divorce (73), marital separation (65), jail term (63), death of a close family member (63), and personal injury or illness (53). Even happy events, such as marriage, can rank high on the stress scale.

Most of us do not go through life measuring our stress level. However, referring to the scale can be quite instructive. For instance, after consulting the scale, you might decide to delay a major decision such as the purchase of a new home until you’ve successfully battled the stress from your divorce. Or you may decide to wait before taking a new job until you’ve dealt with the stress from your wedding. This self-awareness can enable you to reduce your stress level and to maintain your equilibrium amidst great life struggles.

Therefore, one of the healthiest things you can do is to draw up a list of stress-causing life events and post it in a place where your entire family can see it. That way, you’ll have a constant reminder of just what you’re up against. This can also serve to encourage your family at a time of great heartache. Family members will be able to see that the event is a normal part of life-one that many other families face. As a result, they’ll be able to put the event in perspective.

Try to talk to someone close about your feelings regarding the stressful event. It can be your mate, your friend or religious counselor. If you feel that there’s no one close to talk to you can try asking your physician for guidance on finding a good therapist. Talking about your innermost feelings will help the healing process, and help you handle stress better.

Another good option is to commit your feelings to writing. Keep a journal and use it to express your innermost thoughts. You might be surprised by how therapeutic this can be. Use the journal for some problem-solving. Think of ways that you can effectively deal with the stressor in your life. It may be as simple as taking a hot bath to calm your nerves, or as challenging as reorganizing your personal files. Such problem-solving techniques can help you to realize that you can overcome the challenge in your life-that your life will not end, just because you’ve encountered a major setback.

Now that you’re familiar with the stress scale, let’s form a more pro-active approach. For starters, if your marriage is not improving with counseling, perhaps it’s time to consider preparing for divorce. Also, if your father is in the hospital and suffering from a major illness, try your best to do all you can for him before he dies. What you’re doing here is preparing for catastrophe. While it’s stressful to think about such calamities, it can also help you handle life’s traumatic events.

One of the most important things you can do is to slow down the hectic pace. Don’t be afraid to take your time when making life’s big decisions. Most things in life do not need fast decisions. If you have the benefit of time, use it wisely to consider your options. In the end, your decision will be the smarter, more effective choice. If your mind is calm, you’ll handle life’s roller coaster in a more stress-free manner.

  • What is Visco Foam

Posted on February 9th, 2009 Visco Dan No comments

If you find yourself waking up tired, or your body is aching because of the sleep that you got the night before, it may be time for you to give a different kind of better chance. I am referring to beds that contain a visco foam or a visco elastic foam to give you the greatest nights sleep you could ever imagine.

Visco foam was developed by NASA, an attempt to decrease pressure caused by the extreme G. force astronauts received during takeoff in space shuttles. After developing Visco foam, NASA never even used it in the space program. However this left a disco foam to be used by many other markets such as, medical fields and retail mattress manufacturers.

The reason mattress manufacturers showed interest in visco foam is because it allows the bed to elevate pressure points during sleep. Visco foam was extremely expensive when it first came out and could not be afforded by the general public. But in recent years it has become less expensive to produce and is now widely available in almost everyone’s price range.

The most common use of visco foam, is in mattresses, mattress topper’s, and pillows. It’s a really to retain heat, has allowed many people with aching bodies to fill better throughout their nights sleep, because of the added heat. They visco foam mattress tends to be quite a bit more dense than an ordinary foam mattress making it more supportive, but the same time it is a lot heavier.

With this in mind, they mattress containing Visco foam will usually sell for more money than a traditional mattress, however they disco foam mattress will last longer due to their ability to resist dust mites. Visco foam is made from polyurethane with additional chemicals that help to increase its density and viscosity level. Due to the chemicals used to make visco foam, new visco foam mattresses give off a distinct chemical odor but will decrease over time.
