    Ants are seen all over the globe, from the hottest deserts to the lush green rainforests. We can find them in our landscapes, in our homes, & even in our workplaces. They live in colonies, & in a single colony are over a million other ants. There are several different types of ants. Some of the better-known kinds are the fire ants, army ants, driver ants, weaver ants, silver ants, honeypot ants, bulldog ants, & leaf cutter ants. Colonies of ants are made of three classes of ants, specifically the workers, the soldiers, and the lone queen.

    Ants are one of the most common creatures in the world and are of different types. In spite of their tiny appearance, they could hurt humans as well as animals.

    The behavior of ants may vary depending on their class. The size of ants range from two to 25 millimeters & their color may vary from red to brown or black.

    Army ants & driver ants are highly developed ants. Driver ants are found in Africa and army ants are found in South America. Unlike other species, these do not have permanent nests. These colonies reproduce by two methods - nuptial flights or fission.

    Ants that make their nests in trees by putting leaves together are known as weaver ants. These creatures first force the leaves together with a bridge of workers and then they sew the leaves by pressing silk producing larvae on the leaves.

    Ants with generally have enlarged bellies are honeypot ants. They usually live in hot, dry places such as Australia, Africa, North America & they can be found in deserts as well. Some places considered these ants as a great delicacy.

    Leaf cutter ants feed only on fungus & live only within their colony. They come in different sized classes to carry out various duties that are to be done in the colony.

    Ants that have a sac of poison are known as the fire ant. Their “poison” is known as piperidine alkaloids.

    Lastly, one of the biggest and most primitive varieties of ants are the Australian bulldog ants. They have only 1 chromosome.
