Choosing Furniture For A Bedroom
Posted on August 27th, 2010 No commentsAt times when you’ve had a hard day all you want to do is head off to the bedroom to relax and recuperate from a stress filled day. This is why your bedroom should be a room that makes you feel calm and relaxed. You can fix the mood of your room not only by the color you use on the walls but by the kind of furniture you put into it.
Most important to this room is the bed, it’s where you will sleep and if you’re not comfortable it will be noticed in your everyday mood. The bed is important to make sure that you’re able to sleep and get enough rest each and every night. Don’t get a cheap bed just to save money; you will pay for it in the long run. Get a bed that you can sink into and get all warm and comfortable in.
First is the size: the bed shouldn’t eat up a bulk of the bedroom floor space. It’s important to have adequate space for you to walk freely and accommodate other furniture pieces. Make sure the bed you choose suits your needs as well as those of your partner, if any. Also, consider each other’s sleeping habits and health issues; a bad back, for example, could call for a special bed or an orthopedic mattress.
Add in some nice shelves to the room, this is a great way to keep the room more clutter free. You can put up books or pictures on these shelves. But make sure you pick a size of shelf that will fit the size of the room. If you want you can even paint the shelves to get some more color into the room.
The floor is one very important factor in a bedroom that’s often missed. Bare floors give any space a cold and solitary feeling. Give your bedroom a warmer, homier feel with rich and thick area rugs. Aside from making nice decorative pieces and cover-ups, rugs also work as sound insulators to dampen the sounds of heavy footsteps. Rugs come in many different colors, sizes, shapes and textures, so you have a practically limitless selection. You could play it safe by using neutral colors like white, brown or black. You could also be bold with bright or high-contrast color combinations like crimson on white. An area rug can be placed at the foot of the bed, next to the dresser or even at the bathroom door.
Adding in a wardrobe or even a nice armoire will give you extra places for your clothes and other things to be placed in. Put your TV into the armoire or wardrobe and close the door for a less cluttered look.
Bedroom Design experts all agree that it is essential to use area rugs. And as discussed here one of the most popular ranges is the transitional rugs.

Choose Contemporary Rugs That Can Add Charm And Dazzle
Posted on August 20th, 2010 No commentsAdding an area rug to any design is a great way to give the room a boost of life. Contemporary styled area rugs are the new “it” these days so why not join the crowd?
Bold patterns, colors, and washable materials in the contemporary area rugs are a great way to bring the design into any home without having to fear that it will just be more of a hassle.
Choosing a new Contemporary rug is just like selecting any other rug. The guidelines are still:
What’s the rug’s use - traffic, focal point, accessory? How big is the room? How will it spark or complement the decor?
Beyond that, choosing a Contemporary rug for any living area is purely a matter of taste. Whatever the color or pattern, you the buyer get the fun of choosing the area rug that appeals most to you.
Contemporary area rugs for specific rooms of the home:
Living Room:
If it is a smaller room try going for something on the smaller side with a brighter color palette. You don’t want the room to be overwhelmed with a large patterned area rug.
In a larger room you have the option for a larger pattern or even a larger rug. Another way you could take this is smaller rugs dispersed throughout the room creating a break in each area.
Bolder and Simpler:
Brighten a dark room with an area rug in sunny, warm tones.
Bright designs such as abstract will help set the tone for contemporary furniture pieces.
Bordered area rugs are great in family rooms placed underneath the coffee table to set off the conversation area.
Dining Room:
Since the rug most likely will be under the dining table, look for rug patterns with the emphasis on the borders, not the center. Why waste a magnificent Persian in a medallion style in a spot where it won’t be seen during the main activity?
Children’s Rooms:
When choosing the right area rug for a child’s room you’ll want to make sure they are durable, stain resistant, and easy to clean.
Avoid rugs made in the patterns of popular cartoon characters to keep the child’s room from becoming dated (and the child begging for another rug with the latest favorite). Instead choose a pattern with colors that will match a favorite of styles as the child matures and his/her tastes change. Or choose a braided rug in multiple bright colors.
If you have a large enough bedroom try choosing a game area rug for the play area such as a race track and then a basic colored area rug for the other side of the bed by the night stand.
If the area is too small for two rugs at once then go for something which can cover most of the room but then also be a learning tool. Many are sold with the numbers, alphabet, or even color scheme to give your child a learning toy and also decorating their room.
Contemporary rugs come in many different shapes, sizes, and patters so there is always something for someone out there no matter your design.
If you found this information about choosing rugs valuable, and feel it’s time to decorate with beige area rugs then we recommend www.HouseOfAreaRugs.com as the best place online for rugs.

Romantic Greek Decor In The Bedroom
Posted on August 9th, 2010 No commentsIf you are trying to create a great romantic bedroom feel for your and your loved one, why not choose a Greek style? It will make everything flow without any complications.
If you have a four post bed which stands out as if it belongs in a castle, you’re set! The larger the frame is for the bed the better for this Greek style look. Greek crochet patters or something with floral should be chosen as the bed style. You can place a basic white bedspread on your bed with these style throw pillows to make the bed look grand.
Green plants or other floral plants which bring a scent to the room are another Mediterranean technique to give you comfort and a better nights rest. It will make you feel as if you are sleeping in a bed of flowers in nature.
Area rugs could be placed on each side of the bed along with at the end of the bed. You can tie in the color theme in the rug as well or even a unique design which flows with the other colors and patterns in the rooms design. If you are considering changing the carpet or the flooring which is already down, try going for a stone look. Now a days they have great laminate stone flooring which looks like the real thing. This will make your bedroom feel as if you are right out of a Greek novel.
For the walls, use sand color wall paper or simply just paint the walls white and hang a couple of beautiful oil paintings up. If you can find a picture of Aphrodite, the Goddess of Love and Beauty of Cyprus, it would give the room more romance.
Wrought iron or brass candle holders with wonderful red and white candles are also a great addition to add throughout the room to bring romance to the design. They are inexpensive and also will make your room smell wonderful.
Add wicker bed side cabinets. Add a wicker chair in the corner with a few cushions on it. For a unique design why not cover it with a Greek crochet patterned material. Another area rug can be placed here under the chair if the bedroom is large enough.
If you are shopping around for new furniture for your Greek style bedroom, try choosing darker colored wood. It will accent the rest of the decor for the Mediterranean feel. Vases with wonderful floral designs are another plus on each of the night stands to bring some more plant like style to the decor.
The Mediterranean Greek style will give your room that romantic feel any couple deserves. Why not pamper yourself when it’s time to relax?

Decorate A Child’s Room In Feng Shui
Posted on July 13th, 2010 No commentsYou may sometimes hear using Feng Shui as the decorating style for a child’s room. You might wonder what this means. Feng Shui claims to attract certain energies depending on the arrangement of furniture and space available in a room. It can also relax and inspire a child and make them succeed in school. Feng Shui is also a way to improve safety in your child’s life.
Figure out a design before you try bringing it into the room. Giving yourself ideas which are positive and negative for the room will help you out as well. If your child is one who has a hard time concentrating then you know to make the room ore soothing. You also want to make sure that the room is safe at all times. You can choose soft fabrics and lighting to create a great Feng Shui space.
One great factor when placing a child’s bed in the room with the Feng Shui style is placing the head of the bed against the wall. This will allow them to get out on any side if they need to turn the light on or off for any certain reason.
Clutter must be consistently purged. Remember to place all electronics, books and toys in storage bins tucked away in the closet or under the bed. You can also use a beautiful armoire to hide other unnecessary distractions, such as a television, video games, or a stereo.
Children need plenty of rest so they can be productive the following day so you want to create a relaxing environment for your little one. You don’t want something too bright or overwhelming which will distract them and make them feel over stimulated.
Placing a soft area rug in your child’s room will also add texture and balance. You can either use a patter which matches the theme in the room already or just a basic solid color to blend it together.
Even the wall and ceiling angles play a part in Feng Shui. With sloping eaves, posters are not recommended to be put at the bed’s head since it creates a sensation on pressure hanging above your child’s head.
If you aren’t quite sure what Feng Shui is but you want to create this style in your child’s room or any other room in the home, try researching it before decorating a space. Another great idea to make sure your child’s room is safe and has that Feng Shui feel is to sleep in it for a night. Look around and see what the vision is before you rest your head and also when you wake up. Also take into consideration shadows which may appear with the glare of the night light. Make sure it’s not going to scare your child if they wake up in the middle of the night. On the other hand, if the room is bright due to a street light then place darkening shades on their windows to give them peace. If your child is old enough to help you decorate their room encourage them to help you. This will be a great learning experience for them and also show them that other cultures have great design techniques. Also ask them how they feel when they enter their room. Make sure nothing is harsh to their eyes and they feel at peace with the decor.
Keep up to date with Children’s Interior Design trends and enhance your home with kids area rugs.

Decorating Using A Budget
Posted on July 2nd, 2010 No commentsPeople who are in the market to redecorate their homes may not have as much money to set aside to do so. The economy isn’t very good and people seem to be losing their jobs easily. This will cut into any kind of budget that you were hoping to use in order to change the decor of your home. But you have ways that you can add some extra money into that budget pot and make the changes you were hoping to do.
You should try and make a lower budget because you don’t need to spend a bunch of money in order to make a room look nice. You should be more focused on whether you are creating a balance in the room and a nice feeling of harmony. Make sure that you get objects that will go together in what style you are hoping to create in the room. Don’t go with the usual, mix it up with some additions that are unique and show your personality.
If you have a few items that are expensive you should try and keep them together in your room. It’s just natural that if you place those less expensive items with the more expensive ones it may make the expensive items look cheaper. But you can be amazed at what you may find at the flea market or garage sales. You know the old saying, “Another person’s junk is another’s treasure”. Check these places out for some great buys. And even if you find some good buy for a small amount it doesn’t mean that it will look cheap.
As we all know, rules can be broken. This applies to home decorating as well. Inexpensive items can be paired with expensive items if fashioned correctly. Firstly, expensive and inexpensive can co-exist if there are simple lines. Since simple lines naturally appear luxurious, all items will be elevated to that level. Another way is to invoke a spirit of funkiness. The “gypsy” look is to combine a great piece of modern furniture with an antique vase. The contrast is stunning!
Other ways to save money on home decorating involves careful shopping. Flea market, estate sales and even garage sales can be a great source for home decor. They are price moderately and the sales are plentiful during the spring and summer months. The key is to have an idea of what pieces and what colors will work with your decor. Do not buy something that will not be useful or complement pieces already in your home.
Budget home decorating can be achieved by purchasing area rugs. Area rugs can add color to a room’s decor. They are available in so many patterns from stripes to color blocks to graphics. Area rugs also can add texture to a living space. Cotton, wool, bamboo, jute, sisal, synthetic are among the texture choices available to suit one’s individual needs.
You will need to make sure that you get the correct size of rug though, don’t buy one that is way too large. Or in the same instance one that is too small it will take away from the look you are hoping to achieve.
The economy isn’t the best and it’s hard for people to spend money on a project. But if you go about the steps the right way you will see that you can decorate and not spend much money.
If you found this information about budget interior design helpful, then you are going to love these budget bedroom decorating ideas.

Easy Decorating Tips Using The Drama Of Contrasting Colors
Posted on June 16th, 2010 No commentsWhen people think about making changes to their home, either one or two rooms or the entire space, most often they imagine color. For the most part people choose colors they like, or colors that would go with the current furniture. One idea that frequently get overlooked is to decorate with two great contrasting colors, black and white.
Black and white, used in decorating, creates drama and pizzazz. It is said that every room can benefit by using a touch of black. Black is a color which anchors and grounds a room. Adding sophistication, black is definitely a color that demands attention. Some of the ways one can add some black includes pillows, trim, area rugs, furniture, or a ceiling fan. Black serves to add definition to focal points of a room. Black is just one color that stands out or makes a statement.
Using black and white when decorating a home, provides a clean, fresh, well-designed atmosphere. This combination can be added to any area in a home making it a sophisticated space. Contemporary design tend to use black and white together more than any other design style. It may be hard to believe but there are an abundance of ideas using black and white only when decorating a home.
The flooring is a wonderful place to start in decorating a room. Black and white tiles can be laid on various patterns along with being laid on the diagonal, creating a fresh and elegant room. Black marble used on the floor, accented by wide white baseboards, another beautiful idea for decorating a home. A wooden floor can be painted in various patterns using only black and white. These are some really classy, elegant and often cost effective way to add elegance to a home.
White walls, is there anything more ideal? Painting the walls white or even an off-white, would make a perfect background for accessories such as artwork framed in black. That you can imagine. Elegant black window treatments or black shutter against a clean, crisp white wall would definitely create an aura of sophistication.
A bedroom decorated using black and white would be delightful. An iron bed-frame in black or white, covered with a patterned black and white comforter. For the pillow shames, you could use either all black or all white and could add throw cushions in the opposite color. A nice leather black or white chair in the corner would be certainly accent the room. Then the white walls with an elegant piece of artwork, framed in black hanging on it, this would surely add to the contemporary feel.
Black furniture against the crisp white walls would look neat and tidy. Jazz up the room with accessories such as pewter or silver candlesticks, jugs or vases. If you think the room needs a little color to complete the look, perhaps a throw or cushion in a bold color like red or gold, for the chair in the corner of the room would be enough to accent the room. There are zillions of ways to decorate your home. And zillions of beautiful ways… While it can be fun to do something a bit off the wall, remember you have to be able to live with it. What may look cool at a first glance may become a bit much when one has to spend countless hours there.

Up Close & Personal With Persian Rugs
Posted on May 5th, 2010 No commentsIf you have ever seen a Persian rug you’d notice the detail they have in their designs. Persian rugs are handmade with natural fibers and will fit with any type of decor.
Persian rugs were actually discovered in a tomb of a famous Scythian prince in 1949. The archaeologist’s found them and tested what they could of the data as far back as 500 B.C, this was during the period of Achamenid. They used a technique of weaving with wool, silk, and cotton back then to create these gorgeous rugs. The weaving technique has two different depictions one on each side, deer and Persian horseman. The center is usually a deep red. The first rug found was measured at 9.3 x 6.5ft.
In the 16th and 17th Century the rugs were a variety of different types. Like the Tabriz that made some very original designs to their Persian rugs. Most common for the designs were medallions, vines, or clouds. Persian rugs that had a lot of designs with Figures were the most popular in Iran, but were not commonly sent out to the Western world.
There are a few different groups of Persian rugs depending on their sizes. The 6×4 Farsh was considered the largest rug and then Qalicheh was the next size below.
When the idea of Persian rugs was first thought of the idea was to add a design and layout to the rug. There are different types of designs they are an all over pattern, one sided, and a medallion in the middle. The Persian rugs are made up different motifs. Each of these motifs will have different things they mean, such as Rosette, Boteh, and Gul.
The actual weaving of Persian rugs is an intricate and arduous process. Based on the quality and size of the rug, the completion time may be a few months or several years. The weaving process begins by passing a number of wefts through a bottom warp to create a base. Then loosely piled knots of colored silk or wool are tied around successive sets of adjacent warps. This creates the elaborate patterns in the rugs. As more rows are added, the knots develop into the pile of the rug. Once completed, the warp ends forms the fringes which can be tasseled, braided or weft-faced. A hand made rug can have a knot count that varies from 16 to 550 knots per square inch.
Many consumers are purchasing Persian rugs at this time knowing the craftsmanship and the quality of the carpets. There are usually anywhere from 16-550 knots per square inch of each carpet. Iran has exported around $420 million carpets in one year alone. Iran is the largest area which produces Persian rugs having around 1.2 million weavers.
The craft and beauty of Persian carpets will have it being of favorite of all and will remain a way everyone loves to make their home more beautiful.
Decorating with area rugs has never been this easier; be sure to take a look at these oriental rugs.

Home Renovation Plan: What To Do To Keep Your Cool
Posted on April 23rd, 2010 No commentsMost of us wouldn’t enter into a major home project such as redecorating without at least some kind of a basic plan. However, home designers can vouch for the fact that the more attention you spend on the details of home decorating, the better your final results will be.
These days we have seemly endless resources for planning a new home decor. Books, magazines, videos, Internet articles, even videos on the Internet offer a veritable flood of ideas. Family and friends, especially those who’ve redecorated a room or an entire house, are good sources for suggestions on supplies such as fixtures, fabrics and other materials. And if the do-it-yourself spirit doesn’t capture you, there’s always an interior decorator available to help.
Expect that in the process of home decorating, your life may take on a chaotic turn. Your vision of a comfortable and cozy place won’t just materialize in a snap. You still have to deal with cans of paint, rearrangement of furniture, painting job, measurements, and the ceaseless cleaning and sorting. Dealing with this is actually more of a concern than the actual redecorating work.
If you can’t afford to rent a place while your home is being made over, it’s not a wise decision to renovate the entire house all in one go. One step, or precisely, one room at a time is the way to go. Here’s why:
1. You can manage the disruption better, especially if you have young children. 2. You can find space elsewhere in the house for temporarily displaced furniture. 3. You’ll spend less money and time. 4. You will get satisfaction sooner than if you did the entire house.
In coordinating with workers like painters and carpenters, let your expectations be heard, especially with the timeline. You don’t want wasted hours and money. Of course, the faster the work gets done, the sooner you’ll get back to your normal life. Hire carefully by checking their credentials and work experiences. If you could get referrals, then the better as their work and skills have been vouched for.
Create a family center in one room before the heavy-duty work starts. This might be an extra bedroom, den or the kitchen. Giving the family a quiet place to relax helps maintain some routine amid the chaos, which is especially important for children. You might even consider getting the little ones a new game or bedroom accent, such as an area rug with a puzzle or a roadway scene, in order to give them something to shift their attention away from redecorating work.
Have fun even if redecorating a home can be troublesome. Utilize colorful items to lift your mood, such as eating utensils, flowers and scented candles. It will keep your sanity in check and your children’s creative minds flowing.
Finally, be sure the youngsters - and any spouses lusting after the power tool - understand that the area being redecorated and the tools therein are off-limits for the duration. If possible, have the family enter and exit the home via a separate entrance, so that the area under construction is kept protected.
You’ll never have to worry about Interior Decorating again! Take a look at the dynamic rugs mystique to learn more.

The Changes In Area Rugs: For Better Or FOr Worse?
Posted on April 21st, 2010 No commentsArea rugs have evolved through the years. The colors have become more diverse, the designs have shown one period to the next, the shapes have increased in choices and the materials have become widely assorted from wool to natural fibers.
In addition to the above aspects of area rugs, modern machine weaving technology has given rise to an unimaginable array of designs to suit distinctive homes and decor needs. Whether your decor is traditional or down-right avant-garde, you are sure to find a fabulous area rug to suit your home decor style as well as your budget.
Area rugs are now widely used as home decors and floor coverings. For this, kitchens, patios and porches are decorated too with area rugs to protect the floor from dirt and stain. The decorating duty of area rugs has already been proven since the early times when rugs were first used. Up to this day, area rugs never fail to add beauty to any living space.
It is vital to note that when using area rugs in high-traffic areas, opt for rugs that are made of durable materials so they can last for a longer time. Synthetic, jute and bamboo-made rugs are three of the best kinds to use.
Not just residences but office environments too, are looking at bringing in something new to their staid spaces with a little more style than the simple wall-art of a controversial painter’s copy. They are ditching the over-used idea of having murals on glass partitions and oft-repeated motif of thread-lighting effects too.
For both personal and public use spaces that have limited traffic to ensure a longer life to high quality decor accents like area rugs provide, it is then a matter of using the right blend of patterns and materials in a room or office area to fill the space. Offering a customized stamp of class, area rugs can be used to enhance flooring, walls and even the theme of the decor strategy.
One of the most effective ways to utilize an area rug is to suit it with the others items in the room and not just with the wall painting. Consider the curtains, sofa covers, throw pillows as well as other decors like the flowers. The complementing pieces together with the area rug will have an appealing, easy to the eyes effect.
Lastly, area rugs have developed from monotone hues and designs to prints and patterns. A modern practice is using a runner rug not on the floor, where they originally belong, but also on top of a tabletop as a covering. I can’t wait for other discoveries about the alternative decorative uses of area rugs. Of course, newer designs and shades are also worth looking out for. To end, I can say with confidence that area rugs changed for the better.
Home Design has never been so easy with these geometric area rugs.
