This article is for you to find out more about these amazing decors.
The idea of picking out one or a just a few can be frustrating. It would be best to know helpful facts about area rugs, so you can better make a choice of a rug that will fit best your home.
Area rugs made of synthetic or acrylic fiber - these rugs are highly durable and resistant to stains, mildew and sun damage, as well as being water repellent therefore, ideal for outdoor use or for high-traffic areas. Compared to other kinds of fiber, synthetic rugs are considerably cheaper. Among the different synthetic materials, Polypropylene and Olefin have the highest resistance level against stains. Nylon is another type and popular for its easy maintenance and durability.
Then there are natural fibers. Wool is extremely dyeable, durable, soft, and clean. Wool is considered to be the superior fiber and tends to be the standard to which all other rug materials are measured. Cotton is softer than wool but cotton rugs are not nearly as durable as their wool counterparts. Jute is not a very common material used whenever it comes to making rugs It is the softer than cotton, possibly softer than any other natural fiber. Unfortunately whenever Jute is exposed to direct sunlight it can either darken or fade in color and whenever it is exposed to moisture for long periods of time, it will eventually disintegrate.
Now that you have been familiarized with natural and unnatural fibers here are some words that every rug shopper should be familiar with. Whenever you go to a rug store you will end up feeling more confident about your decisions and will possibly impress the sales person.
Stitches and needle counts - this means the number of loops of yarn. When the rug has a higher needle or stitch count, it becomes thicker and richer in fabric. This is preferred by many because the rug lasts longer as it doesn’t easily succumb to wear and tear compared to a loosely-woven rug, the result of fewer needle and stitch counts.
Warp yard - this is the stationary threads and is actually the sturdiest fibers.
Hand-carved - this is a design made from hand shears.
Border - this is the group of designs that are repeated in one direction in the border or outer lining of the rug.
Warp yard is stationary threads. This are the strongest fibers used in rug making. They are intersected with wefts, which is the filling material. These are woven through the warps.
The border refers to the composition of the decorative designs that are repeated in one direction all around the outside of the rug.

Rugs for Decoration
Posted on November 18th, 2009 No commentsRugs have several uses and it can make a statement no matter which way you choose to display your rug. Using different colors, shapes, sizes and styles are easier than ever when you consider all the options you have available today.
Every room is an individual room so it should be decorated that way. If you use floral designs you should compliment it with warm colors or cool solid colors. If you use small patterns compliment them with large patterns to tame them down.
If you have furniture as a focal point you can use your rug to compliment your focal point. Use colors that blend in and avoid primary colors that may stand out.
If your focal point is the area rug itself you can use bright colors or large busy patterns to allow the rug to stand out.
If your focal point is a fireplace you want to use patterns and colors that will enhance the fireplace and not distract. You cannot have more than one element competing for the focal point. This will make the room seem unbalanced or busy.
There are other ideas to decorating with rugs:
1.) Light spacious feeling rooms can be achieved by using light colors and patterns. Warm areas can be achieved by using dark colors and patterns.
2.) A different shaped rug can bring a totally different look to your room. Try round, hexagon, octagon, or oval.
3.) Depending on the room’s general appearance, fringes on rugs can add an Oriental flair to a room. Be careful when vacuuming the fringe, though: do not use the vacuum brush or beater bar, both of which can damage the fringe fibers.
4.) Make used or worn rugs into sofa pillows by removing the worn-out parts. Adding tassels to the pillow edges can make them unique and stylish.
5.) A colorful rug may also make a good wall decoration. Tack or nail it to the wall, or sew loops at a long edge, run a window rod through them, and attach the rod to a pair of window brackets. You will make only two holes in the wall and the rug will hang straighter also.
Decorating with rugs can give life to a dull room. Use the rugs to make a statement or to instantly change the look of a room.

Rugs and Their Care
Posted on November 2nd, 2009 No commentsA good rug can last a long time and if it is looked after well, it can not only prove to be durable but also retain much of its original beauty. There are some useful ideas that will be of practical use when it comes to the maintenance of a rug. If you would like to see your rug looking great after years of years, consider the following ideas.
When you are placing your rug for the first time, put a rug pad under it, irrespective of the flooring underneath. Not only does a rug pad hold the rug firmly in place, it reduces the amount of wear and tear on the rug and helps keep it looking better longer. A rug pad should be between 3 and 6 mm thick and should support the entire area of the rug. It should be replaced whenever it wears out.
When it’s possible rotate your rug to increase the life of the rug. This will help you avoid high traffic areas that sometimes tend to wear down quickly leaving a path in your rug. It will also avoid sun fading if it is located at a window with direct sunlight.
Clean your rugs at frequent intervals. If you don’t feel you can do a good job, you can get your carpet professionally cleaned.
Avoid vacuum cleaning delicate rugs whose fibres could get damaged with the force of suction. When you are drying a rug, don’t hang or drape it - it should be laid flat on the ground and care should be taken not to step on it until it is completely dry.
Don’t let sunlight fall on your rugs directly. Use a curtain if you must, because bright light will fade the colours of your rug.
When moving your rug around, do not pull on the rug. Instead simply roll the rug up and carry it to the destination. Avoid setting any furniture on your rug while it is rolled up. This can cause permanent damage to the fibers of the rug and can also cause creases that you cannot get out.
If you enjoyed this information about decorating with rugs, then you are going to love these round braid area rugs.

Choosing The Perfect Rug For Your Room
Posted on October 24th, 2009 No commentsA great way to give your room a fresh new look is by adding area rugs. Today’s design trend is eclectic giving you numerous choices when looking for the perfect rug to add to your room.
If your decor is Victorian or traditional English you will want to look for an area rug that appears to be antique. A faded out Oriental rug will add a touch of old world elegance to a Victorian room. You can choose from authentic antique Persian Oriental rugs, kilims, dhurris or high quality manufactured copies. Aubussons, and hooked Victorian rugs also offer the antique look. Designers say that floral area rug patterns are the best choice to match this dcor style.
Antique Oriental area rugs and Aubussons are a good choice for other decor styles. Any old world style of design is will be complemented by an Oriental. French country looks are very popular and can be highlighted with an antique area rug as the focal point.
Some styles work better in homes with a more modern look. This modern design includes a minimal amount of furniture and just a few must have accessories. Geometric shapes are what is seen the most. You can also find an area rug like shag rugs, flat carpet style rugs, sisal rugs, and more. Try using solid colors or patterns that are bright in color so the attention will center to that part of the room.
Tech rooms should feature a flat carpet rug, shag rug, or a sisal rug. These rugs create less static.
Hook rugs, rag rugs, and sailcloth rugs are one of most adjustable rugs to fit into any style. They are elegant as well as chic and stylish. These are American country design and they include patterns that are floral, pastel solid, or trompe l’oeil.
Arts and craft design may be incorporated by adding a spare William Morris type of rug. The elements found are abstract and in style. They complement the wood angles of the arts and crafts style found.
You can also add eclectic and ethnic dcor and style to your room by choosing an area rug with a fun print. Choose a zebra or leopard pattern that can coordinate with any color you want to highlight in your room.
When you use a textured rug that has a design it really speaks to your guests. Sisal, coir, or nubby dhurries are all rugs that you can place in the room in order to get a great look with a modern style.
A lot of homes are going with a Mexican design or South American design. This is using earth tones as well as geometric and striped patterns
It’s your room so create a look that is perfectly arranged for your family. You can incorporate modern look and feel and still bring out the wild side of yourself.
Keep up with current trends in rug decorating and enhance your home with synthetic area rugs.

Area Rug On The Wall: A Unique Decoration
Posted on October 17th, 2009 No commentsWalls are not exclusively for artworks, photographs or certificates of achievement. A wall in need of improvement is not only answered by a paint job. Believe it or not, an area rug can be placed on the wall for beauty and practical reasons. The former as wall hangings or decors, and the latter as a wall cover for seedy-looking parts. So yes, area rugs too are not just for walking on.
An example of a nice place to put an area rug as a wall decor is on a large wall like in the entryway separating areas of the house. For instance, the hallway to the staircase and the first floor to the second storey. The wall’s space will be filled up and an object with color. This is a simple way to improve a wall’s otherwise blank appearance.
Even if you live in a more restricted space, hanging an area rug is still acceptable. Don’t think that this decorating technique is only meant for bigger houses. Not true at all. Smaller spaces hence, smaller walls can be adorned by smaller rugs. Smaller though doesn’t imply less quality or second rate. With the assortment of area rugs, even smaller sizes have amazing collections - great shapes, designs, colors, materials. What the bigger rugs have, the smaller ones also do. They just differ in, well, size. Oh yes, and price. So your living in a cuter space has its perks too.
When you are choosing an area rug to hang on the wall, you should choose one with some sort of design. You will not want to hang a plain area rug on the wall, but one with some type of design. The design does not have to be ornate, however. Although there are rugs that are made primarily as wall hangings, any area rug with a design can be used in this manner. This will not only add color to the room, but it will also add a bit of warmth. The area rugs on the walls will make the room seem cozier.
There are hanging systems sold in specialty stores used for hanging objects on the wall. If your rug is on the heavy side, you have to secure it more, but locking the top part will do in most cases. The rug will hang effortlessly. If your rug is quite light and thin, a strong tape is already effective. If it doesn’t work and your rug ends up being friends with the floor, just be grateful it’s all fabric and not glass breaking. Change to plan A and use sturdier hanging essentials.
Take your time in shopping for the rug of your choice. Focus on those with your favorite color or theme for the design. Area rugs as wall hangings are one of the easiest, most convenient and brilliant ideas in home decorations. Your home will look so nice that inviting guests might just become a hobby.

Why Hardwood Is Better Than Laminate
Posted on July 11th, 2009 No commentsWhen it comes to wood flooring, there are tons of products to choose from. You have your hard wood, laminate, and parquet. My family has been in the flooring business for 25 years and know what it takes for a good quality floor. We specialize in hardwood in the Houston area. We also install laminate and parquet. When you go with a hardwood floor, you are investing in a product that is going to last a life time.
Hardwood floors can make a room feel different than carpet or tile. Just looking at a well put together floor can change a persons mood. Most people that are in the real-estate business can tell you a hardwood floor can be a great selling point to a buyer. Some hardwood floors are as old as 100 years. There is no-way that a laminate floor will ever last this long. Hardwood floors can get scratch, as many floors do. This can be caused by furniture being moved, dogs, and even your lovely children’s toys. The best thing about this type of flooring is the fact you can re-sand, re-stain, and alter the look if you so choose. Hardwood is more expensive to buy than laminate. The price can range from $4 - $15 a square foot. It all depends on what type of wood you buy. Installation is usually $1.50 - $5 a square foot.
Laminate floors are a cheap alternative to hardwood. If you have done research then you know that the warranty on laminate flooring only goes up to 25 years. That is only if you buy certain types. The bad thing about this type of flooring is, you can NOT refinish it. These types of flooring come already finished, all you do is snap the pieces in place. This can be tricky because if the tongue on the board breaks then that board may not be completely grounded. If the board is not tight then the floor can warp causing ripples.
The difference between the these two products are worlds apart. If you have the resources to get a hardwood floor done, it is worth it. Just a reminder: there are some types of wood out there that are cheaper, like white oak or pine.
If you want a floor that is going to last, then go with hardwood floors in your home. Not only are you going to have a floor that looks great, but can also be altered over time to fit your home improvement imagination.

Cleaning the Bathroom For Your Family’s Health
Posted on May 8th, 2009 No commentsWe must do everything we can to preserve our health and the health of our family; it is one of the most important things we have in this life. Outside the home, we can protect them against dangers by ensuring that they have taken proper vitamins, as well as making sure they eat the right kinds of food. At home, we have more control of their immediate surroundings, so we can protect them much better from dangers and hazards.
We teach our kids to value their surroundings from an early age. Even though we find it hard to get them to clean their rooms, they’ll eventually realize that a clean room is worth the effort. You wouldn’t need to get involved in this. But, the bathroom on the other hand, is a place in the home wherein the kids may not want to clean. Like other common areas in the home, the bathroom is your responsibility.
The bathroom is a particular cause for concern, because it is one of the moist areas in the house. If you don’t mind that particular location, then the place will slowly turn into a bog. Life tends to thrive in moist and dark areas; that is why we need to take care of the bathroom. Besides, while some members of your family may disdain staying in the living room, everyone will have to use the bathroom more than once a day.
It’s a given that the toilet needs special cleaning and attention, but we must also take care that the tiles and grout in a bathroom should get special cleaning, too. The toilet may be infested with germs and bacteria, but fungi grow in grout between tiles. If left alone, these organisms may turn into harmful parasites that can harm your family.
I recommend calling in the services of professional grout and tile cleaners in Richmond if you are having difficulties with cleaning tile and grout. These experts can get rid of the dirt, grime and harmful organisms in your bathroom, and make sure that the area does not become a danger zone for the members of your family.

Relax and Let Richmond Grout and Tile Cleaners Do the Work
Posted on May 5th, 2009 No commentsIf I really had the time to perform upkeep on the house, I would do it in a heartbeat. But as it stands, I’m a working man with more important priorities. I spend eight hours at work everyday; add the travel time and the time I spend during breaks on top of that, and you’ll see that I just don’t have as much time as I used to.
There was a time, way back when, when I had a clean place. I was in college, to be exact, and my roommate and me took some pride in having the best-kept quarters in the whole of the dormitory. I just couldn’t study with a dirty place, so I had to keep it clean. I made sure it was always spotless. It was the same with the bathroom, as my roommate and I made it a habit to keep it clean with the rest of the room.
Things are different these days. While I now have my own place to stay in right here in Richmond, my busy career life prevents me from cleaning the place as often as I want to. That said, I still find ways, and perhaps once a month, I turn the place inside out to remove all dirt and grime.
Out of all the places in my home, I have difficulty getting the bathroom clean. I have always cleaned the old dorm bathroom often, about once a week, but with my home bathroom, it takes me about a month to get to it. When I do get to clean, all the dirt and grime have settled deep into the grout, resisting scrubbing with my brush. It’s pretty irritating.
I did what was logical; I called in professional tile and grout cleaners that were advertising around Richmond. I need a place where I can relax and kick back, and if I can’t do it (time constraints or otherwise), I would gladly pay someone else to do it. It’ll be worth every cent, so I can rest at home without a care.

Tile and Grout Cleaning Benefits
Posted on April 23rd, 2009 No commentsCeramic tile and grout cleaning has many listed benefits and advantages. One of them is that a polished ceramic tile is economical. The luster that a polished tile possesses reflects back the light from the ceiling fixtures thus saving on electricity purposes. A polished tile is also very easy to clean and maintain as it is wax-free flooring. Simple stains and dirt may be removed through water mixture of household detergent or soap and water.
Ceramic tile flooring is proven to possess high tensile strength. The strength it possesses is due to the repeated and overlapping application of concrete hardeners and other cement materials. The strength that a polished tile possesses makes it possible to use in residential and commercial spaces where high traffic and heavy loads are present. The sheen a ceramic tiled floor possesses also makes it attractive to use in these areas.
Tiles are easy to clean. To clean ceramic tiled flooring, you may use water mixture with detergent or soap and gently scrub the affected area. Ceramic tile is non-porous meaning stain does not go though the concrete. Cleaning it is easy as there are a lot of commercially available polishing conditioners in the market.
Tile polishing brings out the aesthetic beauty of ceramic tiles without having to alter its natural appearance. Scrubbing down discolored and dirty tile surfaces is one way to bring out the aesthetic appeal of the ceramic surface. Tile Polishing is also environmental friendly meaning there are no harmful chemicals or solutions that are used in the process. Chemicals used are certified low VOC and are safe to human health.
Almost any types of commercially available ceramic tiles can be cleaned using tile and grout cleaning method. Ceramic tile and grout cleaning does not only clean dirty tiles but also transforms a drab piece of slab to a gorgeous and exciting piece of art.
