  • The New Answer To Budget Flooring Needs

Posted on May 19th, 2010 Shaun C. Arpeto No comments

When you adore wood flooring, but can’t afford the solid hardwood version, laminate flooring may be your answer. When looking at the different wood floorings you’ll see solid hardwood flooring, both finished and unfinished, designed wooden flooring with a layer of real wood attached to an under layer of plywood or other made wood and laminated wooden floors.

Solid wood is the hardest to install and the most high-priced, but can be refinished as required. Engineered wood flooring has real wood on top and is thinner than solid wood so is less complicated to be employed in existing houses. It is pre-finished so you get a real wood floor faster without the finishing process to live through.

Laminate flooring is not real wood, but looks incredibly like it. Laminate wood flooring is made from layers laminated together with adhesives and heat. It’s the least costly wooden floors and the simplest one for householders to install themselves.

Laminate wood floor construction starts with a sturdy thick wear layer that’s clear. It is followed by a layer that is a photographic picture of real wood of different kinds. Under this layer is a made wood product for strength and stability. The bottom layer is for water proofing and insulation as well as padding for comfort. Some laminates ask you to put a layer of thin water resistant padding down first and don’t have this layer. The laminated flooring decisions with the insulating layer attached are best, but they do cost more .

The reasons to consider laminate flooring for your house are :

    1. laminate floors is made of wood derivatives, so no trees are cut down to make it.

    2. laminated flooring is a budget friendly flooring choice that lasts as long as twenty-five years so you get a large amount of wear for your greenback.

    3. You can get some very exotic wood patterns at a little part of the price of solid wood. You’ve more wood pattern decisions than with solid wood.

    4. Laminate flooring is made in planks with a click together system that needs no glue or nails, so it is simple to install. You can install it yourself and save the price of installation. Few tools are needed.

    5. laminated flooring is a floating system that can be installed over many sub floors and other hard surface floorings. It is easy to remove.

    6. laminate flooring is very sturdy and easy to wash.

    7. laminate floors looks great with a few area rugs scattered about for color and pattern. 8. laminated floors is thinner that solid wood planks, so it is serviceable in houses that can’t accept the thickness of solid wooden floors.

  • A Few Area Rugs That Add A Bit Of Character In The Interior Of Your Home

Posted on May 7th, 2010 Shaune F. Loorca No comments

Have you finished the decorating of your brand new home and then realized it is too neutral, and color is lacking? We are sometimes so inquisitive about getting the entire house done in a pleasant coordinated demeanour – with neutral colors that are straightforward to work with – that we forget to add interest and character to our finished rooms or new hardwood flooring.

That neutral background depends upon color in furniture and accent pieces to add interest to the home. A neutral background is fine if we take that final step in the decorating process. Area rugs are a flooring accent category that should not be ignored, whether they are used on laminate flooring or hardwood.

Area rugs come in many configurations and sizes to fit any room or area of the house. You can get intricate patterns in traditional or modern style. There are area rugs that depend on fascinating materials and textures for design interest. Area rugs can come in many bright and interesting colors that would be a bit much in wall to wall carpet. Area rugs can have a theme or a game motif for specialty uses. There are very good children’s rugs that add a touch of fun now, and can be exchanged for more mature patterns as the youngsters grow.

Area rugs serve many flooring functions in the home. High-traffic areas like entryways can have an area rug to soak up soil from the outside as people enter the house, and can then be laundered when dirty. These rugs may wish to get replaced more often than wall to wall carpet. Replacing a tiny area rug is more economical than replacing a complete room’s carpet.

Area rugs perform nicely in outlining spaces like conversation areas and dining rooms. Area rugs can add color and pattern to a room with no other points of interest. Best of all, area rugs can go with you when you move.

Some of the best companies world wide for area rugs are: Karastan for machine made wool rugs of top quality; global accent for traditional and modern rugs made in India ; Momeni for persian rugs made from Chinese wool in China; and Surya Artist Studio for wool rugs of New Zealand imported from India in modern designs.

There are companies making fine area rugs and carpet out of artificial fibers also. The wool area rugs are more enduring and higher quality, but they are pricey. If your financial position is littler, check online for companies which make area rugs from artificial fibers on machines.

  • How To Create A Room You Will Love

Posted on October 20th, 2009 Judith Wankston No comments

When we have just moved into a new place, we are often struck by one particular room in the house that can possibly be our special nook. In order for the room to be our favorite part of the house, we have to do more than just “connect” with the room. Of course, it also has to look good! You would want this place to be your very own – not just restful and peaceful to your senses but equally appealing as well.

In preparing your room for a new look, you must first make it available for decorating. Take out the things that are not needed and furniture that can interfere with a smooth flowing decorating work. You should make your room free of clutter and distraction so you will have a clearer idea of your goal – how you want your room to look like.

Next up you’ll have to decide what will be done with the walls. Why the walls first? Well, just like the floor, they can’t be moved out when they are the wrong color. They’ll have to be repainted again, which means all the furniture will have to be covered up or taken out of the room again. As such you’ll have to put some careful thought in about what you would like the room to look like when all the work is done.

When you’ve got the walls figured out, then it’s on to the floor. Now unless you have a substantial budget set aside for this, you’re probably not going to redo the floor. Perhaps touch it up a little and give it a good clean, but essentially floors stay the way they are for a number of years. However, there’s nothing like a decent area rug to either lighten a place up or dim it down; serve as a focal point or as an accessory to one.

Area rugs have been around for a long time. Its longevity just implies that they have been essential decorating items especially for our homes’ interiors. Deliberate the purpose of an area rug to your favorite room. Do you want it to be the first object in the room to get attention? If so, a rug with a bold or striking design such as the medallion found in most Persian and Oriental rugs will work best for you. Do you want it simply as an attractive decor to the room? Then choose an area rug with a compatible color to your room or one that accentuates your furniture, such as the sofa, coffee table or drawer where you plan to place your rug. The benefits of an area rug are numerous, but bottom line is, it is a vital piece for transforming your room without the hassle and bustle.

When the walls and floor are done, you can now proceed to the actual decorating items. Place some furniture either new or your old ones (just make sure to clean them!); add accessories such as artworks, flowers or plants, photographs and books or magazines; and work on the lighting, curtains and other essential decors in the room. You’ll probably be spending most of your time here so you have to make it right. You want to make it a place you’ll never get tired of no matter how long it’s been. Don’t get too excited however and overdo your decorations. Make sure each piece looks good with everything in the room.

Leading Interior Decorators have finally revealed that area rugs online are their number one choice for home decorating. And this seagrass rugs, has been very popular this year.

  • Mind Your Grout

Posted on March 4th, 2009 Rick Amorey No comments

If you have cleaned a bathroom, there are probably two things you hate doing. One is the toilet seat, and the other is the grout in between tiles. In this article, I will discuss the latter; the less visible, yet still very important, tiles.

In comparison with the toilet seat, grout cleaning may seem inconsequential, as most human contact happens on the toilet seat. Grout, on the other hand, is limited to the walls and the floor. People make a lot more actual physical contact with toilets, but, the dangers of dirty grout are light and are unfortunately, airborne.

Grout’s very nature allows it to absorb the materials around it, which includes soap suds, dirt, and mold. These will, in turn, stick to your feet or fly to your nose. Sooner or later you will have clogged nose, or you’ll be coughing a lot. The bacteria have already done its job.

Grout must indeed be regularly cleaned. One can either learn to this by himself, or hire professional grout cleaners to keep these diseases at bay. Both have benefits, and I shall discuss them in detail below:

You can go “do-it-yourself” and clean your bathroom tiles and grout personally. This includes shopping for the right solution (or making a homebrewed one), and finding the right scrubber to deal with the dirt. An old toothbrush would do just fine, being the cheapest method. However, if you are feeling mildly extravagant, you may instead opt for an electronic scrubber. Whatever you choose, make sure that you do your research first. We can’t have you buying faulty equipment, now.

If you decide to go for the grout cleaning professionals, on the other hand, then there will be some (but not a lot) additional expenditures. Offset this extra cost by maintaining your grout and tiles. If you do some light cleaning everyday, then the molds would not have a chance to develop, and consequentially you wouldn’t have to call the cleaners too often.

Posted on March 2nd, 2009 Bob Jones No comments

To be able to effectively work with concrete polishing one needs a specific set of tools for every methods to be used. It will not be really a problem as there are useful information widely avaialable for a floor contractor. The right tools for the right procedure will effectively bring out the best in a polished concrete floor.

Rags or pieces of used cloths are never left behind on a concrete polishers toolkit. These items can be used for scrubbing tints to wiping excess water in a workers surface. It can also be use to remove dust from a concrete grinder and cleaning other tools during demobilization.

Another type of tool for concrete polishing is the concrete grinder which is used for the concrete grinding method. The concrete grinding method involves a lot of grinding and polishing of an uneven and untreated concrete surface before the application of shine. Concrete grinders are widely available in different types.

A construction tape is an essential tool in doing concrete staining. Any kind of tape can be used as long as it has very good adhesive capabilites. Tapes that have wide widths are commonly used in wider work areas. Tapes that come in narrower widths are applicable to use when a decoration is essential.

  • Dirty Grout and Cooking

Posted on February 26th, 2009 Bryon Zipkin No comments

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I’m the average Joe type, working for 8 hours a day for six (maybe seven) days in a week. While growing up, my dream was to be a chef, but somewhere down the line, I decided it wasn’t practical and went into a different career instead. Now I’m a desk jock and I’m finding it a bit boring and repetitive. Fortunately, my girlfriend has a knack for bringing excitement into my life.

Saving and cutting back seem to be the trend these days, what with the recession happening, and I, of course, am no different. My busy schedule normally meant I would eat my meals at restaurants, but I have thought about it, and in the interest of saving money have decided to pack lunch and cook my own dinner.

Unfortunately, I am very skeptical about my apartment’s kitchen counter. I’ve never used it before, but in the same light, I think the people who previously lived here used it a lot, and the grout in between the tiles in particular is extremely dirty. I’m pretty certain I would get sick if I decide to prepare food there.

Determined to cook my own dinners, I decided to roll-up my sleeves and get to work cleaning the counters. And the rest of the house, too, while I’m at it, so I can invite my girlfriend over. Unfortunately, a few minutes of scrubbing made me realize just how hard it is to clean grout. I did some light reading and found out it was made of porous cement. Being so, it had absorbed all the food particles that it made contact with. Maybe for years. So all the grime have seeped in thoroughly.

I would want the kitchen counter to be sparkling white again, if I had the time to spend working on it. Unfortunately, as I’ve said, I work six days in a week, and generally take Sundays off as a day of rest and relaxation. I did the next best thing: I went online and surfed around for anyone in the area who could come in and take care of it for me.

  • Dirty Kitchen Grout

Posted on February 24th, 2009 Rick Amorey No comments

One must remember that keeping the kitchen clean is an important task. As the center for food preparation, its cleanliness or lack thereof will have an effect to the quality of the food prepared inside it. See, everything that makes contact with the food, even if it were brief, will end up inside a person’s biology.

Therefore, it is important for any management of those in the food business to maintain the cleanliness of their kitchen. Likewise, every household must be aware of how to maintain the cleanliness of their kitchen. Everyone is aware of the need, even on the subconscious level, but oftentimes, awareness does not translate into action. This article urges you to have your kitchen cleaned, especially if your counter is tiled.

Kitchen grout, the spaces in between your tiles in the kitchen, is one of the most prominent breeding ground of bacteria, and must subsequently be cleaned properly. Unfortunately, this is very hard to reach because of its very small nature. Most people resort to brushing it off with a toothbrush and using some strong detergent. Others would resort to potentially hazardous chemicals.

But if I were to choose amongst these options, I would have to go with the former. As I’ve said, everything that touches the kitchen could potentially go to your food, and hazardous chemicals are, well, hazardous. Perhaps even as dangerous as what could grow on your grout.

If you can find a choice, try to go for the environmentally safe cleansers out there in the market. Something organic is best, but do check your resources if they’ll do the job.

Another potential option is to get professional grout cleaners to do the job. Check out your sources to make sure that you call a group who knows what they’re doing, and then have them clean the kitchen grout with friendly chemicals. This way, the food you make is kept healthy and safe, while at the same time you are confident that no bacteria can come up to them.

  • Grout Karma

Posted on February 23rd, 2009 William Borris No comments

Cleaning has always been irritating for me. Don’t get me wrong; I like keeping the house clean. I just do not want to be the one to do it. Why should I be doing house cleaning if I work six days a week to have food on my family’s table?

Maybe it is karma that led me to cleaning the house’s bathrooms, then. Much as I hate cleaning, the alternative of letting my wife kneel down and wash all that muck by herself is unacceptable. So whenever this happens, I find myself taking the initiative to get the materials from her and do it myself.

And so I find myself at a constant war with grout. The floor tiles themselves are hard enough to clean, but add to that the complexity of the cement between the tiles, and i find myself losing. Only the smallest toothbrush can even get to them, and as if the ground absorbs the dirt inside it, I just can’t seem to completely remove it.

But, being the stubborn man that I am, I cleaned and cleaned the grout twice a month. I scrub at the tiles until they’re sparkly clean once again, and I struggle to keep up with my grout nemesis. But he’s a crafty one, this grout: I could never clean it well enough. I hate cleaning, and now I absolutely despise not being able to do cleaning as well as I could.

I give up. No more cleaning the dirty-beyond-hope bathroom floor, because in the end, frustration just gets the better of me. But, as I’ve said, I really want to keep the house as clean and hygienic as I want. So I looked around and found a professional grout cleaner. Who knew they’d be on the first page of a search engine’s results? I talked to my wife and persuaded her to have them look at it.

I just hope they do a better job at it than I did.

  • Concrete Polishing Fixes

Posted on February 18th, 2009 Rick Amorey No comments

I’ve been writing a lot of articles over the course of the last few weeks regarding concrete polishing. I came across it whilst going through sites on the internet. Since then, I have enticed my friends and family and basically, everyone I know about it. I have invited people over to see the concrete polished floor in my house. And, of course, the articles I have been writing.

And what’s not to like? Concrete polishing has all the combined benefits of a durable material like marble, a cheap material like ceramic tiles, and a sleek, elegant material like hardwood. With all that rolled into one package, it’s definitely the best choice that I’ve made for the house renovation.

Of course, there are a few negative qualities about it. Make sure the concrete you’re using can be polished, as not all concrete can be polished efficiently. A too porous surface, for example, will not have set well enough to have a proper shine after polishing. Note those concrete types that have a lot of cracks, patches and fixes. They can be polished, mind, but you will simply not be able to hide the fixes and your floor will not be perfect.

Pouring on a new layer of concrete on top of the damaged concrete might be a solution to this predicament. This would necessitate buying more concrete, but the cost will most likely be insignificant. Then again, I have been told this is not always a solution to the problem at hand. I must confess, I have yet to understand the exact readon for this, but it might have something to do with the new layer of concrete not settling with the old layer.

These, however, are minor setbacks and please do not let these hinder you from having a polished concrete floor, should you decide to go through with one. Concrete polishing is cheap, but at the same time, stylish and durable. To learn more, go to the Concrete Polishing website and meet some other enthusiasts of concrete polishing.

I’ve been sick for the past few weeks. The cough and cold has been bothering me, as none of the traditional medicines seem to work. Then, we posited that perhaps it was the dirty area in the house. In theory, if you clean the area, the sickness will go away.

But that’s the quandary; I’m generally the guy who does the cleaning in the house. As I was, at the time, stuck to my bed, I couldn’t actually do it. And if I can’t do it, the dirty atmosphere won’t make me feel better. So, in a rare display of sincerity, my family decided to help me clean the house this one time. For the most part.

In less than a day, the whole house was clean. Well, almost. The bathroom was left untouched.

I still didn’t get better the next day, and we surmised that it was because of the unkempt bathroom. I resigned to look for any “professional bathroom cleaners” on the internet. I didn’t find any, though I got close; I found a website on grout-cleaning that may just fit the job. I decided to contact them, then, but not before convincing my brother to clean everything else unrelated to grout, such as the toilet.

After paying my brother ten dollars for the messy job, I had the grout cleaners come over. There was a brief discussion on the cost, and then the cleaning began. And I’ll admit; their work was pretty impressive.

The grout cleaners have done what I could never do even at full health; they were able to clean both bathrooms so well, it looks as if the tiles have just been applied onto the floor. It’s well worth the cost of calling them up, and I will make sure to do it again in the future.

Oh, and I’m happy to report that i began to feel better the next day.
